The Function of Fellowship in Transforming Lives

Joan Mulvihill, Digitalisation and Sustainability Lead, Siemens

Buildings – individually and collectively – have transformed our landscape and our lives. As the blue planet has become an increasingly sludgy grey planet, obvious questions arise: Where did it all go wrong? How do we get it right this time before the clock runs out of time?

Beyond the urgency of the climate crisis, where our buildings must be more environmentally sustainable, what of the sustainability of the human spirit?

It is an increasingly crowded world, and by 2050 two-thirds of the world’s population will live in urban areas, so where will we go to find peace? Where will we find space to create? How will we flourish wildly within the constraints of tracks, timetables, networks, data, AI, VR, AR, Avatars and automation? When everything is done for us what will we do? Where will we find our awe, and what will we do with it!
